Situated midway between Belvidere and Oxford, Apple Mountain Golf & Country Club has been recognized as one of New Jersey's must-play courses. The course was built on an apple orchard, providing fragrant apple blossoms in the spring and colorful foliage in the fall. The unique design was built on a hillside, which in itself presents many challenges to golfers. The dramatic elevation changes from pin to green present difficult lies on the approach shot. There is no sand on the golf course, but with water on 11 holes, and demanding greens, sand traps will hardly be missed. A local magazine dubbed Apple Mountain Golf & Country Club's signature 17th hole one of the most perfect in the state. This par-6 hole was once the site of a ski slope. The hole doglegs down a mountain with treacherously positioned trees along the right.

The Up and Down, Up and Down Course
I was fairly surprised by the condition of the course for paying only $12* a player, riding. The guy working the pro shop was helpful, nice, and very encouraging. My brother and I played from the white tees, as we usually do, so it was a mostly drive-and-pitch game. Besides the par 5s, we were mostly pitching the ball onto the green from our distance. If you're an average golfer, the whites are just fine, but if you really want to play this course, I would recommend playing from the blues, and getting the ~600 extra yards of play. There are a lot of holes that are way uphill and some that are way downhill; resulting in an up-and-down course, which will have you playing a lot of up-and-downs. This course only has a sand trap on the back of the green on #18, but the tough, undulating greens make it just as difficult. With the Delaware Water Gap only miles away, it's one of the most scenic courses I have played. Some of the holes had wet, sloppy fairways, but I'm guessing that was from the recent rain. Some of the hole locations may be a little difficult to find as well, but the staff did explain where you would find the tee boxes after each hole. Also, a lot of holes were closed to carts, and were blocked off by string. This did become a problem, especially after hole #13. We took to the wrong side of the fairway, and had to ride all the way around and back up to cut across #13 in order to get to #14. All in all, if you can get a great deal on Golf Now, I would say go for it. I'm fairly certain I would play it again, but from the blue tees.
The club didn't honor the online rate.
Course was in the best shape I've ever seen it in. It's not usually great in the summer. I paid $25 per golfer for two of us on golfnow but when we got there the staff said we had to pay $12 each extra for one cart and with tax they actually wanted $39 per golfer instead of the $25 advertised with the cart. They eventually agreed to charge us $30 per golfer but they shouldn't advertise the cart being included in the round price on golfnow if they can't honor it.
rigid management
I arrived for my tee time booked through GolfNow.
It was raining and I never reached the first tee. I checked the tee sheet for the next day and there were many openings. I asked that they cancel the booked time and give me a time the following day. They refused, pointing to their raincheck policy that the course had to be closed. I will not return to this course with such rigid and discourteous management.
Great day
People are often down on apple mountain because its not state of the art - its a great course and its a lot of fun. Price is right, too. Worth playing if you are looking for a laid back round - maybe not if you think you are tiger woods and expect everything to be perfect. Will definitely play again.
New Jersey
Challenging course. Lots of improvements going on.
thi is a good course to play
Nice course I play it 4-5 times a year with my son,you can stick the ball on the green and also get it to check up,course starting to get into top shape, winter was a little longer than normal along the mountains, will definitely be back to play again,if playing for the first time get a yardage book or try to play with someone that can help you where to hit
Try it at least once
1st time visitor to the course. Believe in giving everything a try at least once. The surprising thing for me were the lack of sand traps. Course was soggy in many areas. Greens, a bit shaggy, but understandable since the mowers haven't been out yet to cut them. They can be a real pain to putt on during the summer, especially if you're above the hole. Views of the Water Gap are pretty spectacular and can only imagine what the view must be during foliage season. Worth the trip if you can snag a green fees special.
Apple Mt, NJ
enjoyed the round. course had its challenges, not very long, lots of up and down hills.
Much better than years past
The greens were tightly cut and well kept. Much better overall than I remember in the past couple years. The owner has definately put time and energy into the course and it is paying off. A place I'll be looking forward to play again.
ALWAYS A GOOD DAY ON ANY GOLF COURSE !!!
I WOULD PLAY THE COURSE AGAIN BUT IN BETTER WEATHER !!!!
Fall Cleanup
I play many golf course in Northern NJ this fall but this one had to be the worst maintained. Maybe the grounds crew were on vacation that day. Most of the fairways and greens were covered in leaves. We drove over an hour to get there and were disappointed by the grounds keeping. We would lose our balls in the middle of the fairway and spend alot of time looking for golf balls because of the leaves. I would like to try this course again but not in the fall. I have dealt wth leaves falling on the courses but not this bad.
Bring Your Batting Helmet
My round began today when they gave me the key to a dirty cart still full of someone else's trash, and didn't have any score cards. The first tee box set the tone as it was a dusty mess, and what grass there was was crabgrass. This is a common theme. I had to ask the cart girl (who to be fair was kind, and had good prices) where hole 3 was. The cart paths are beyond repair in most places.
Oh, aside from small 150 stakes, there is nothing signed. So you are guessing the whole way around from where the next tee is to how far you have and how long holes are as you traverse up and down hills. This also includes holes 9 and 17 which offer to play as a par 4/3 and 5/6 respectively, with signs that say "you decide". The fairways, if you want to call them that, are mostly like someone's backyard that was mowed. They also run parallel and balls will stray, so if it's busy be prepared to duck and cover a lot from stray shots. And the greens are very shaggy and extremely slow, with a lot of break.
Overall, even for the $10 I paid to ride via a hot deal, I feel like I wasted my time and money. basically I feel like I paid for the scenic views from the holes on the top of the hill. I've played worse, sadly, but this is down near the bottom.
Nice course..
The Course was nice and well kept. Ground was relatively hard in some places and made it hard to get under the ball. This is also the first course Ive been to that had NO bunkers! My biggest complain is that the course had some very poor signage. It made it kind of hard to find each hole. Seemed like a nice place to eat as they had a restaurant.
Good time on the mountain
I like this course because it is very scenic. Beautiful views of the Delaware Water Gap. The course is a challenge but very fair.
Great staff from the clubhouse to the 19th hole. Also very good food
They need to refinish the cart path, not have certain tee times when there's a golf outing
Scenery, food, course play and price worth the trip
Hills Galore
Beautiful course, great scenery accompanied by wildlife running around. I love the water hazards as well. My only negative comment is that you are either hitting on an incline or decline on every shot.
Great Condition
Very relaxing round of golf. Course in great condition and scenery was spectacular. Friendly staff. Will return.
Clueless facility
This course has potential but the staff doesn't know how to run a course . No rangers on this course so people go where they want because holes aren't clearly marked . Tee boxes are so close to incoming fairways that it creates a dangerous situation.no snak stand and no snark cart.
