Good golf course
The course was in great condition but too long for most seniors and women. It’s one of the most challenging courses in all of southern New Jersey
challenging and fun
enough interesting holes to keep you on your toes. very friendly staff. a little pricey for Nov play,- no cart girl, no hot dog at the turn, but I'd play again in a heartbeat
Girls day out!
Our first time playing there. Person at the desk said welcome and enjoy the day. OK, but where is the first hole? Restrooms? Any on course? Is the grill/bar open? etc. could have been friendlier. Course was beautiful, well maintained and greens perfect. We have had alot of rain past few weeks. Course is very big and challenging. We skipped a few of the holes because of cart path only.. Grounds crew were helpful and didn't mind our questions. Great weather and a great course, we will be returning and bringing more of our friends.
Hidden Gem
Very tough track. Very playable after a night of heavy rain. Starter was a hoot. Great chatter and very helpful.
Odd experience at the counter checking in. My partner and I were the only folks in sight due to the rain. Check in pro spent 10 minutes explaining the public courses membership rules to someone at least 4 different ways. Never even looked at me waiting to pay and tee off. Odd. Could have multi tasked or used a brief hold.
Love this place
Hidden gem , was paired with two gentlemen can’t say as much for the guys behind us , purposely hit into us then came up like they wanted to throw fists crazy eh , but reminded them this is a gentleman’s game obvious there not but as for the course had a great time Always like playing here
Course Condition Improvements
New Jersey shore golf courses are notorious for excessive price gouging during high season without providing course condition and services that dictate the high cost. I am happy to say that after my previous visit to Shore gate Golf club they have made excellent changes. This layout is excellent with a variety of different types of challenging holes and sand and water hazards. Greens had been aerated on 9/7 and were consisstent and not bumpy. Fairways and greens and bunkers(hundreds) were all in good condition. At least, if they are charging top $ , they are maintaining the course in top condition. Also, If you want to pretend to be a pro try Hole#9 from the back tees 649 par 5 absolutely a fantastic golf hole anywhere in US!
Sand sand
Really liked the way the course is layed out u hav to be accurate with ur shots an club selection or u will end up in alot of sand bunkers that said i still had a very enjoyable day
Great layout, rough conditions but getting better
Greens are very good,
Tee boxes are bad
Fairways full of divots.
Fix the tee boxes and fill divots and this course would be exceptional.
Difficult but excellent golf course
Great course, was cart path only because of strong storms the night before which made for long walks and slower play, but lots of different holes with plenty of risk versus reward, risk won the day but will be back.
Solid layout - great staff
Played with three buddies and was very pleased overall. For a course that gets a ton of play, the fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Pro shop staff was incredibly helpful and bent over backwards to accommodate the last minute addition to our foursome.
Greens fees were a little steep, but that is the case at every course in the area, which is what you expect at the beach during the height of vacation season. I felt the quality of the course made it a good value for the area and the time of year.
Thank you for a fun day. We’ll be back.
Excellent
First time playing here in about 8-9 years. I was initially concerned by some of the reviews, but happy to find out the course is in good shape. Sounds like they had some tough times in 2020 and 2021, but little sign of that today from what I saw.
It's not as great as it was back in the mid 2010's, but it's much better than the condition of the average public course. The green speeds are very quick, as good as you'll find on any public track. That alone makes it worth your while. Fairways good overall, though too many unfilled divots. Shore Gate is one of the best layouts you'll see. Top 3-4 public course in NJ in my opinion.
Only drawback would be the price. If you're in the area once or twice a year, it's worth playing even for $130. If you're from the area, it's tough to justify spending that much to play here multiple times a season, although golf course pricing has seemed to spike out of control all around over the last three years. Much better value if you can get the afternoon rate.
