Par 3, 150 yds over water Photo submitted by corey4826799 on 08/18/2013
challenging and beautiful layout, rain has taken its toll though
First off this course has no business charging $100+ when 10 fairways have either completely out of bounds areas covered in hay or 20 x 20 ft sq areas of mud. Being that i got a Sat tee time for $50 from golfnow this was acceptable though considering everything else the course/club represents.
A course of proper length, most greens were well protected and some had slopes. The layout was challenging and had a few nice looking par 3s. When the weather is more forgiving and the fairways are fixed up, this will be a nice course to play, if you spend 50-60. The traps are white sand, not brown dirt which was great.
i give 4 stars based on what i see that it could be, not for the recent shape of the fairways since the record July rains have caused a lot of havoc in the area. The value still isnt there though unless you get a golfnow deal.
I was solo and ran thru the course in 3.5 hours since 3 groups let me play thu.
Not worth it
Too slow, too torn up, too expensive and too far away
Hidden Jewel
Woodcrest Country Club has been a course I wanted to play for a long time. Having been a private club in previous years, I was never afforded the opportunity play the course. I have friends who grew up there and bragged about how nice it was but never played there either. This year, finally, the course went public. I expected the prices to be high, considering the stories I had heard. Golfnow gave me the chance to play Woodcrest for a reasonable price. I have played this course every other week this summer. The new staff is doing a great job at keeping it true to the tales. They are very friendly and helpful. The cart girls are extremely good at their job. They turn on the charm and you just want to buy something. The course itself, is in great shape. I have seen it get better and better each round, even with all the rain we have had recently. I would definitely recommend Woodcrest Country Club to anyone who loves the sport.
Great course; will test your putting skills
Have played this course numerous times before; always in exceptional condition. Used to be a private course. It's an absolute treat to be able to play it publicly; one of south Jersey's gems.
A good test
Overall, the course will give you a fair challenge and a good test of your golf game. If you do not keep the ball in the fairway, you can be playing from the trees (and there are plenty of those). The greens were in great shape and putts held true. For the most part the fairways were good, but needed help in a number of spots. The bunkers needed a lot of work and you need to watch the course yardage markings. We enjoyed the experience, but the management could do much more to make the experience even better.
Play now while Public
Play this golf course while it's Public. The story at the moment is that the course will be Semi-Private next year, with memberships open to the public. On the surface It's expensive, but it seems on Tuesdays there are some crazy deals ($45.00 at 11:30am). The course is in fantastic shape and they have a great facility including a range. Highly recommended while it's public.
Gem in South Jersey
I played it for the first on PGA championship Sunday. And I'm glad I chose to play versus watch the tournament. Didn't want to miss the tournament, but I'm glad I did. Great course and great staff. I don't like paying a lot for golf, but the $100 was well worth it. I wanted to play a challenging new course. And Woodcrest was everything I was looking for and more. I'm definitely adding it to my regular course rotation in South Jersey. It's a MUST PLAY!!!
Great course now open to public
Got a great price on a Hot Deal and used the BOGO coupon to pay $36 instead of regular $125 weekend greens fee. Michael in the pro shop was super attentive and gave us a warm welcome and escort to range. Good pace of play considering difficulty of course and length of rough. Greens are very fast and undulating. Fantastic experience would highly recommend this course.
Great layout, like the risk and reward holes. Green in great condition, but some fairway needs work.
It's my first round at this club so can't compare what it's used to be, but the greens are smaller than average. However, being only 6500 from the back, I can see why. My errand tee shots were found, so I just took my medicine and moved on. It's a shot maker course. Even though I'm a bomber, I enjoyed the round.j
Great old-school course
This course is a must play in the area now that the regular golfer can get on this former private track. Some really spectacular holes with lots of elevation change.
not fun
Course needs to be cut back, not fun to play for higher handicap golfers. I'm a 17 and did not enjoy it.
Tight course with lots of traps and long par 3's
A very difficult course with a slope of 134 from the white tees makes it to hard to play on a regular basis. Narrow fairways with many bunkers adds to the difficulty. Greens were great shape, but some fairways were severely damaged by all the rain. We paid $100. for green fee and it didn't include range balls. The range was like hitting balls in the rough. I could see playing here maybe once a year, but not a course I like to play on a regular basis.
Disappointed
Ive always wanted to play here but it was private. Now its open to public but the $125-$100 range was too high for me. Finally caught a special on GolfNow for $45 and I jumped on it. The clubhouse and locker room are definitely first class. The course was a disappointment to me. The layout is nice, but the condition of the course is bad. Large areas of bare dirt where water had obviously accumulated, and even some bad spots on some greens. This course needs work !! It is NOT worth a $125-$100 rate that they are asking. At $45 it was ok, but I play other courses in that price range that are way better maintained. I also question whether the new ownership is serious about continuing this property as a golf course.
Definitely was a Private Course
You know it the moment you come into the entrance. The clubhouse, locker room, shower room has full details of being an exclusive club (previously). Fairways and greens are well maintained. Surrounding landscape is beautiful.
challenging, over priced
fast fairways, those that didn t have water damage allowed many t shots to wind up in the rough which was penal. greens were nice, but inconsistent on speeds and didn t hold well. why are the red markers at 125 yards? there's no way this course is worth $125 on the weekends or $100 on weekdays. I think the new owners are hoping these prices cause the course to fail so they can redevelop the course into housing. nice course if it were in the $50 range. i'd recommend playing at a hot deal price.
Great course with challenge
Tight fairways lead to quick greens. Not for the beginner but a treat for the experienced golfer
When it's good, it's great, but it's bad in spots.
Playing there was awkward. We dropped out bags off, but there was no clear indication of where to go. The front doors to the clubhouse were all closed. We walked all the way around the clubhouse before we found the pro shop. There was a bucket on the counter to catch the leaking water
The driving range was hitting off of ratty mats and there's not enough room to hit drivers.
The course is very interesting with a good array of different holes. But there are no signs on any of the holes or distance markers. It's pretty easy to get lost.
Where the fairways and greens are green, they're great. But there are a LOT of brown areas where there is absolutely no grass whatsoever
In summary, it's a nice, interesting layout, but with lots of areas that need to be fixed.
Too Expensive for the Average Golfer
An absolutlely gorgeous course that challenges a golfer with every shot. It is a shame that the greens fees are so expensive. Why not offer discounted tee times on certain days of the week so the average golfer can experience this hidden treasure?
On the negative side the water offered on the course was luke warm and not very useful on a sweltering hot day.
Worth the wait!
Woodcrest is finally open to the public, and it was well worth the wait! Wonderful facility, friendly staff, and a challenging, picturesque course! Looking forward to playing it again soon!
