Union League National Golf Club - Sherman/Meade
About
Featuring more than 100 acres of sand, Union League National Golf Club in Swainton, N.J., is a semi-private golf course on the Jersey Shore. It's not all sand, though. The luxuriant fairways could almost be greens. The North/South at Sand Barrens G.C. measures 6,969 yards from the longest tees. The golf course kicks things off on No. 3, a 401-yard par 4 and one of the most popular holes on the course.
Formerly known as North/South at Sand Barrens Golf Club and Union League National Golf Club - North/South.

one of the easy par 3's for the day. 210 yard to the pin and 180 to carry the water. Photo submitted by golfnut593 on 03/12/2013
the greens were fabulous
the course was well maintained the greens were absolutely lush and well kept LOTS of sand but then again you're at the beach. No water to speak of and most holes were relatively straight but most were also fairly narrow. Over all a good value for the price we got for a hot deal don't think I would pay the regular price to play there but again it's a course for people on vacation so they can expect to pay slightly more.
Good Course
good value - good experience - well manicured & groomed. greens are nice.
some challenging holes/ must play smart. better to be short then try to use driver as that risk reward is more risk then reward. I would play this course again.
great layout
Something unique everyone must play! The fairway bunkers are amazing and the course is very difficult. Not for the beginner
3 nines keep everyone moving
We played the West & South courses they are challenging but open. My son and I played in less then 4 1/2 hrs so it moves. Only odd thing that happened is we had 3 different groups in front of us. But I would play again!
Great day
Everything was great, course was in great shape!!!! Looking foward to going back next week. With a great discount from Golf Now, Thanks.
Its called Sand Barrens for a Reason
Overall, the course was in good shape. I played the west to the south courses. The greens were being stripped for some reason so the putting was pretty difficult. The staff was friendly. I was paired with a single who knew the course well so it made it a little easier to play. The pace of play was pretty good albeit there was a league the day I played. I would recommend and play there again.
First time played, definitely coming back.
First time playing this course. It came highly recommended and I was not disappointed. Large greens make it beginner friendly. The course definitely lived up to its name with sand traps everywhere. I will most definitely come back to this course and will recommend it to family and friends.
Nice course for the price $60
Not long but you have to be accurate. Greens were in descent condition. I would play it again.
Good stuff
The course has 3 9's they do their best to keep the pace of play going it's always in great shape this year so far played it six times
Greens in terrible condition
Used the website to book the tee time; it was $20 less than local competitor. I now know why. All green on the south and west course had lines scraped in them; it made putting difficult as you were putting either against the lines which caused your ball to bounce over the lines or with the lines where you ball would track on a line. There were at least two holes with browned out greens. This should be noted either on the website or explained to by cashier at clubhouse.
The cart attendant did not even know that the greens were in such bad shape.
Nice course
Course was nice but have played before with better Conditions. Fairways where beautiful but the tee boxes and greened need a little work.
Sand on the greens
Great course had alot of fun...greens were rough...a ton of sand on them...if they were corrected. .course would be at the top
Great course greens were rolling real nice
Great course greens were rolling real nice nobody on the course at 3 o'clock
Relax and have Fun!!
Course was in great shape. Fairways and greens were very fast. We played at our own pace and finished in about 4 hours and 15 minutes.
Great pace of play midweek
First time playing here. Course was in great condition overall. Staff was friendly, let me go out as a single. I never waited more than 3 minutes at a tee. Finished 18 in 3 hours. A little pricey, but it's the shore. Paid 60 with cart. Careful hitting out of the waste bunkers which are everywhere. Stones galore, they'll ruin your clubs.
Much Better, Finally!
Played here late last year (Sept) and early (May) this year and I am happy to say the course has returned to good conditions. After too many years of awful conditions the new greens keeper is doing a nice job. Always found it to be a fun layout if you don't mind sand, because you will be in it at some point.
The Best Course I've played down the shore!
I was debating on playing either Avalon or Sand Barrens, and the rating was fairly similar, so I looked at the pictures online and decided on this course. I was so overly impressed with the courteous staff, and the course was in top notch condition. The greens were so perfect that you could not even find a previous ball mark. The course had groundskeepers working it the entire time to maintain the perfect fairways and rough. I played in Myrtle Beach already this year and this course was more than on par. Anybody who has an opportunity to come down and play here this year will be very impressed.
Good Course
The course was in great shape and the greens were rolling very well. Would definitely play here again.
Greens break less than you think!
Practice facility is great. The course was well conditioned and every person I ran into was super friendly and we definitely enjoyed ourselves.
The course is odd, we played it from the second to last tees (6700 yards), but really I only hit driver a couple of times (and ran it through the fairway twice). I'm not a super long hitter, so it was surprising.
Greens break less than you think.
Pace of play was slightly frustrating. It was a 10:57 on a weekday, and we waited on literally every shot. It wasn't a 5 hour round or anything, but it seemed odd we didn't finish in 4 hours, considering it's not a difficult course.
