Neshanic Valley Golf Course - Lake/Ridge Course
About
Neshanic Valley Golf Course is a 27-hole layout that sprawls across 420 acres of rolling farmland. It is the flagship course of the five-course Somerset County Park Commission system. The design team of Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry crafted the layout, which is divided into three nines called the Lake, Ridge, and Meadow. The nines can be played in different 18-hole combinations. The Lake/Ridge Course, as the name would imply, starts out with a few water holes. In addition to the lakes on the front nine, environmentally sensitive wetland areas come into play throughout. The fairways and greens are bordered by ample fescue and the putting surfaces are closely guarded by strategically placed bunkers. Neshanic Valley also offers a nine-hole, par-32 Academy Course, which is great for beginners.

Good looking out
I had a 2:35 PM teatime on this particular day I arrived at the course an hour early to hit some balls and warm up.
The pro shop, and the starter noted that we had bad weather moving in later that evening, asked me if I wanted to get out early, and sent me out 35 minutes before my teatime. it was very nice of them and prescient as well. Not five minutes after we finished up our 18th hole, the skies opened up.
The course itself is in terrific shape, fairways, bunkers, greens. And tee boxes are all excellent. The layout is interesting, and trouble lurks just off the fairway.. Nice course, nice staff.
Being a county member I play this course at least 10/12 times a year. Over the past 2 years, the greens have slowed down tremendously. Not sure if they are doing this intentionally or the greens keeper has changed.
Hope they go back to the way they used to be. The upkeep is second to none and makes you feel like you're playing a country club ....until you start putting. Besides that, this is probably the best public course in Central NJ.
Always Top Notch
Awesome condition, can't wait to go back
Excellent
First time playing neshanic this year.
It has always been a favorite.
One of the best in NJ
Everything is top notch
Good quality public course
I have played Neshanic many times over the years. It is a good-quality course and a reasonable value. The course is more challenging than most public courses. The biggest issue is the pace of play, particularly on weekends. The course has t-time availabilities at 10 minute intervals. This results in the course being backed up and delays, particularly on par 3 holes. The solution is obvious, they should lengthen the interval between groups to 12 to 14 minutes. This would make the round more enjoyable.
Great course - worth the drive!!
Everything was good except the starter who was very rude…such people should not be hired in such positions.. the staff inside the clubhouse were very friendly..
Very nice 18 holes course!
We had excellent experience playing the Ridge-Meadow course, the staff are helpful and friendly, the course is very well maintained, the view is superb, overall it’s fantastic. Will definitely come back to play Lake course later.
Great course
Great course great conditions fun layout challenging holes
Best public course in NJ - beats many private ones
Played on Friday afternoon of Memorial Day weekend. Great staff - easy check in. Starter was friendly. Practice green in great condition. Two of us walked and two took a cart. We played Meadow-Lake combo. We finished Meadow in 2 hours. Lake took a bit longer - 2 hours 15 mins due to a slow group ahead of us. Conditions are fantastic throughout - tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, greens. You won’t find better conditions at many private clubs. Rough is getting thicker so harder to find balls that go in there. Highly recommend playing this course. Thank you Somerset County for the great conditions you maintain here and other county courses also.
