Farmstead Golf & Country Club - Lakeview/Clubview Course
About
Water comes into play on six holes on the Lakeview nine at the 27-hole Farmstead Golf & Country Club, which is located in northwest New Jersey approximately an hour from New York City. None is more challenging than the closing hole, a very short -- but very intimidating -- par 3 over water. The Byron Phoebus design opened in 1965.

Great shape and easy to walk
Course was in great shape for it being this early in the season. We walked and it was pretty wide open until the last couple holes. Staff was very friendly which in the past wasn’t always the case. Only complaint is no cart girl or halfway house but the restaurant was open. It’s early in the year so I’m sure they’ll be better staffed as the season progresses.
Poor course management
Group in front of us smoking pot which i really didn’t care about, but when two of them threw up on whole 3 and then again on whole 7 , no course management at the time , very slow pace of play. The course is in ok shape , definitely pricey for what it is, but layout is very good. Staff isn’t the friendliest. Unless it’s something I find cheap on GolfNow I won’t be back.
Course was in a very good condition. Staff were nice. Pace of play was quite comfortable.
Beautiful layout!
Worth the drive to see this gorgeous golf course. Looked great in JANUARY!!! That’s all you need to know.
It's winter, the conditions are really good! It was wet so cart path only which I like because it gives me some exercise. It's winter & not crowded. Ran into 1 foursome that had no intention of allowing me to play through. Had to jump around ,but it all worked out. Greens in great shape. Price very reasonable.
Great course!
Really enjoyed the course, the conditions for January were excellent, some challenging holes but in general a scoring golf course, highly recommend
BEWARE BOOKING SOLO TEE TIMES HERE
I booked a hot deal for this course like I have many times in the past. In the hot deal receipt it says "cart included". When I arrived and checked in I was told I had to share a cart with someone else even though I already paid for my tee time online and once again it said cart included. This was a Wednesday at Noon and it was not busy whatsoever. They had about 70 unused carts, there was no outing, and not to mention its November. I told them I did not want to share a cart and that I paid for my own. The owner told me "you paid for seat, and that if I wanted my own cart it would be an additional $16."
I have never ran into this at any course in the country. I actually played a course the previous week where four singles were sent out all on in their own carts and they had no issues with it whatsoever.
The owner is clearly trying to split pennies during a slower time of the year and has zero sense of customer service. Him and the starter asked me why I was causing problems and started calling me names when I said there is no reason I shouldnt be able to have my own cart thay I paid for. I don't know if he does this for every solo tee time booked or just hot deals cause he's making less money but I will never go back there after that experience and I will advise others to do the same. There are plenty of other courses within 20min of farmstead that are in better shape, properly accommodate customers, and don't try to make extra money when its slow.
Farmstead 10/1/23
Was a great course and had alot of fun!
Pace of play was the only problem as the people in front of us were being very inconsiderate of the people behind. We all have to learn and have fun but unfortunately when you hit a drive and it doesnt even make it to the womens tee you should probably just drop a ball and continue play….. coming from a beginner.
One of my favorites
I've played the club/valley 18 two times now, and both times I've been impressed by the entire course, the conditions, the kind staff, and the excellent pace of play. The club 9 is a nice warmup to the much more difficult valley 9, but together they make for a challenging but rewarding 18 holes. I would definitely recommend this course.
