Mattawang Golf Club
About
Mattawang Golf Club has changed very little since it first opened in 1960. The traditional layout has withstood the test of time as a challenging but playable layout. The course was designed to blend seamlessly into the natural setting while still testing your shot-making skills. You won’t find any man-made water hazards or artificial mounding on this golf course, instead you’ll be challenged by natural streams and ponds and mature evergreens. At first glance, the layout is seemingly wide open, but don’t let your guard down because the fairways are actually quite tight and many of them are strategically lined with trees. In keeping with the time it was built, the greens are smaller than those you would find on most modern golf courses and heavily protected by sand traps. Over the years, Mattawang Golf Club has built a reputation for having some of the well maintained putting surfaces in the area.

Poor conditions, few amenities, not worth the money
The course itself was fair. Not really any special features and no water features. Rather flat for the most part. But the gravel cart paths, no beer carts, poorly-maintained greens, and no bar/grill means that this course is certainly not worth the $80+ price tag.
Save your money
Drove an hour and some change to play this course with some of my college roommates, and was extremely disappointed in the course conditions. it was 95 degrees with the humidity and not one water cooler the entire round, no cart girl, and limited options in the clubhouse. There was balls and errand shots all over which is expected time to time but not as frequent at Mattawang. Fairways were in ok and not the best, having to move your ball to a small patch of grass to prevent breaking your wrists or destroyed your club. The issue the entire round were how poor the putting greens were. The greens were the worst greens I’ve ever played on. Mud patches, missing grass, uneven cuts, and burnt on some. Some holes ran fast and some were super slow based off those factors. Another issue that my group as a hole agreed on was the 235 yard par 3… from THE WHITES! As a 6-7 handicap, this was challenging itself but the players in my group were absolutely defeated having to hit drive on a par 3. There is no business having that long of a par 3 on course itself, even Seaview’s Bay course longest par 3 tops out at 230 from the tips and they host LPGA championships. Poor design with little
Greens suck
This course is great, layout 4.5/5, tee 4.5/5, fairways 4/5 some patches, green aprons 4.5/5, greens 1.5/5. Friendly staff, no cart girl, surprised no water coolers? $85 is steep with terrible greens and no cart girl you need to have water coolers wth? I would pay $55 to play here.
Too much $$ for course condition
Course itself has a fun layout. Greens were not in good condition. Wasn't worth the price due to the course condition. Would still probably play again.
Easy course with no facility
The course is in good condition. Greens are good. There is no F & B on the course . On a hot sunmer day you may desperately want to hydrate wo carry your own water or drink. Nothing available on the course
Well Kept Course
I have been playing for years and the management really puts in an effort to maintain the course and continue to improve tee boxes and fairways. The course is in great shape and the back Nine is challenging as ever. Will be heading back there soon.
Went downhill
I played this a couple years ago. I liked it a lot. The conditions now are a lot worse. Greens were bumpy, fairways have some crabgrass looking stuff growing in them. a lot of bare ground if you're off the fairway. Its a shame. I hope they recover. It's a nice little track
Great staff and challenging too!
Some of the friendliest staff I have ever met working here
The course is very challenging and play was fairly quick
Be aware there is no food or drinks available
Still well worth the trip!
Course is in terrible shape
Course is in absolutely awful shape. I haven’t ever seen it this bad. Whoever is running the grounds crew has little to no experience working on a golf course. Its honestly not even worth $25 for 18 holes right now, let alone $60
Course conditions were horrible outside of the tee boxes and the putting green (I didn't use the driving range). Very dry and many bare spots in fairways, rough and on greens. Was disappointed that twice on our front nine the starter lectured us about our pace of play. We finished the front nine in 2:05 and he told us twice we needed to pick it up because we were playing too slow.
Course near death
I played this course on Fathers Day and am sorry to say that I have never seen it in worst condition. Except for cutting the grass, it looks like nobody actually takes care
of the course. Multiple fairways are overgrown with weeds. Almost every green had large sections of dead grass and bare sandy spots. I can’t really comment on the bunkers because i fortunately only hit into 1 during the round. Tees were fair at best, some had dead, sandy areas.
I started playing here around 6 years ago and at that time is was in good shape. I know from experience that the course doesn’t drain well and it appears that most of the damage on the course is a result of the poor drainage.
It’s a shame to see it in such deplorable condition.
If there is such a thing as a “dying” golf course, this is it.
